How to create a 2-minute brushing teeth timer for kids

A visible daily countdown

A toothbrushing timer can make the full brushing period visible. TickTod can provide a reusable two-minute countdown, while the parent remains responsible for age-appropriate brushing guidance and supervision.

Prepare before starting the timer

Have the toothbrush, toothpaste, water, and any step stool ready. Starting the countdown before everything is in place makes the timer less meaningful.

Explain what the two minutes cover

Tell the child that the timer shows how long brushing continues. Follow the technique and recommendations given by your family's dentist; TickTod is a general timer and does not evaluate brushing quality or replace dental advice.

Use a finish cue the child can tolerate

Choose a sound, visual celebration, or quieter finish that fits the child. Reduced-motion and sound choices can help when a bright or noisy finish is distracting.

Save the timer for morning and evening

Once the setup works, save it as a toothbrushing preset. Reusing the same visual style and finish cue can make the daily moment more familiar.

Set it up in TickTod

  1. Select the child's profile.
  2. Create a two-minute countdown named “Brush teeth.”
  3. Choose the timer style, sound, and motion settings.
  4. Save the preset.
  5. Start it only when brushing is ready to begin.
  6. At the finish, recognize the completed two minutes and continue any parent-led steps.

If your dentist recommends a different duration or approach, follow that individualized guidance.
